For Valentine’s Day this year, we spent some quality time in the bedroom. No, no… this isn’t that type of blog. We spent the afternoon wallpapering. 😉 Wallpaper is coming back into style in a big way! No joke. There are some really awesome prints and patterns available – everything from forest scenes to metallics to theContinue reading “Wallpaper is cool again… No, really!”
Winter storm Jonas hit, and left us house-bound for the better part of 2 days. These stars were the result. They’re built just like our Wood Stars, but with a different (read: way better!) finish. IMHO. There are many techniques for creating a faux distressed look with paint. Usually, if I want to achieve the distressed look,Continue reading “Distressed Wood STARS”
We’ve had insane amounts of rain here in Charlotte, NC during the last couple months. It’s been unseasonably warm for Nov/Dec (70’s!), but too rainy to take advantage of the nice temperatures. But rainy days make for excellent project days! And what could be more appropriate this time of year than boot trays!
I’m so amazed by smart people. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I like to consider myself fairy bright. But sometimes I’m truly overwhelmed by what other people can do. Take these stars, for instance. It would have taken me somewhere in the ballpark of 3 months to figure out the math and the anglesContinue reading “Wood Stars”
We absolutely love tables made from slabs – especially when the live edge is left intact. Something about the modern + natural combination is so beautiful. All the clean, sharp lines intrinsic in modern design coupled with the rawness and beauty of wood slabs is just stunning.
When we moved into the new house, our mudroom consisted of 4 walls, a tile floor and a ceiling. That’s about it. Since we had about 734 projects that took priority over finishing this space, we quickly hacked together an old Ikea bookcase and turned it into a wardrobe-of-sorts. It served it’s purpose – hadContinue reading “Mudroom Remodel”
Prior to this remodel, there was so much unusable space in our kitchen pantry! The built-in shelves that our builder installed did not maximize the space at all. We can’t really claim this as a DIY project because all we did was demolition the old pantry, and install the new one. But we’re still proud ofContinue reading “Kitchen Pantry Remodel”
I’ve always liked the Live, Love, Laugh slogan. Since we live on a lake, I thought it would be fun to take a slightly different spin on the slogan and have a Live, Love, Lake sign in our entryway.
We have some pretty useless dead space at the entryway of our house. It’s a little niche – narrow and long. We’ve been trying to decide what to do with this awkward space. Since we converted the coat closet at our entryway into a “media control room,” we realized we needed a place for guestsContinue reading “Metal Pipe Coat Hanger”
We have this floating ledge feature in our living room. It’s cantilevered into the wall behind it. Awesome, right? Except it was sagging more and more each day. For something to be fully supported (without legs or supports) by cantilevering, the rule of thumb is something like 4-6″ of support into the wall for everyContinue reading “Cable Supports for Floating Ledge”
